Jet Mills / Micronizers

A jet mill grinds materials, such as APIs or non-pharmaceutical compounds, by using a jet of cleaned, compressed air or nitrogen to impact particles into each other. Jet mills are designed to produce particles below a certain size, while continue milling particles above that size, resulting in a narrow size distribution of the final product. Jet mills are impact mills which are designed to achieve smallest particle size at highest product purity.

Jet mill feed rate: 0.01 to 700 kg/h
Initial particle size: 500 to 1’500 µm
Final particle size: 0.5 - 10 µm

This spiral jet mill generates a supersonic speed vortex into which the material is introduced, utilizing the vacuum created by a venturi-nozzle. Each particle of material being carried in the gas stream is subject to centrifugal and radial forces. Micronization occurs via particle collision. A static classifier determinates the particle size profile. Because spiral jet mills have no rotating components, there are no bearings, shaft seals or lubricants required. Hence, no contamination is possible. They are mainly used for processing APIs. More information

Opposite jet mills are equipped with a dynamic classifier whereas spiral jet mills have a static gas classifier integrated into the mill housing. They are used for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients or non-pharmaceutical compounds. More information
